An introduction to the philosophy and practice of The Third Orchestra.

Director Peter Wiegold will be joined by members of The Third Orchestra, the Zafraan Ensemble and Stegreif Orchestra to reflect on their collaboration in the opening showcase.

This will include a look at the way the orchestra works. For example, processes of co-creation, partial scoring, shared realisation and improvisation - and indeed, in this case, the orchestra’s meeting with the innovative theatre work of Stegreif. All this within the context of the world musical lineages that make up the membership of the orchestra.

We may also discuss ‘thirdness’, an approach that seeks the greatest fluidity and inclusivity, and that challenges boundaries and welcomes difference.

Zafraan and Stegreif will also discuss their own radical approaches to new music-making.
