New Streams

What can contemporary classical music offer the film industry?

It is obvious from the history of film and TV that composers from the classical era have a lot to offer soundtracks. This seems even truer today, as some of the most timbrally exciting and exploratory music is being made by composers in the contemporary classical world. In 2023, PRS for Music led a groundbreaking initiative – New Streams – in partnership with Riot Ensemble and the synchronisation agency PUSHER. This project saw concert works repurposed for film trailers, breathing new life into works awaiting repeat performances, and opening new revenue streams for concert composers. Daniel Lewis (PRS for Music) will be joined by Jacob Wiltshire (PUSHER) and Jobina Tinnemans (Composer) to explore unique examples of contemporary music in film, and how this model can introduce audiences to the power of this exceptional music.
