Listening to the Audience

What audience research can tell us about designing concerts for the future.

What really goes on in people's minds during a concert? How does classical music fit into the life of an occasional attender? How are audiences responding to innovations in concert format? In this session, leading academics in the field of audience research share the latest insights from their investigations into the audience experience.

The panel will be led by Dr Sarah Price (University of Liverpool) who will share insights from her in-progress book on audiences for classical music.

Also on the panel:
Dr Gina Emerson (RIFS Potsdam) will draw on findings from her research on audiences' experiences with contemporary classical programming.
Michelle Phillips (Royal Northern College of Music) will share findings from studies using behavioural, neurological and physiological measures to examine the live music experience.
