In partnership with IMZ International Music + Media Centre, the 2025 edition of Classical:NEXT is introducing Film showcases. Embracing this medium will give creators the opportunity to present their work, connect with the community of classical and art music professionals, find new partnership opportunities beyond the film industry, and foster a dialogue between the sectors.

Call for Submissions to the Classical:NEXT Film Showcases
What we are looking for
Classical:NEXT will screen new productions of innovative and unorthodox music projects, highlighting artists and composers. We are looking for films handling new approaches in classical and art music – from early to contemporary, traditional to experimental, major to niche – in all its variety. These can include influences of non-classical or non-western sounds, new and exciting forms of audience interaction, innovative ways to perform traditional repertoire and fresh approaches in contemporary classical work. We welcome submissions of maximum 30-minute long documentary films, one-offs or concert recordings that handle topics such as:
- A deep dive into a specific genre
- A portrait of an artist
- An exploration of the cultural impact of music
Why you should submit your production
Exclusively dedicated to classical and art music, Classical:NEXT is an international forum for professionals from all branches of the genre: the presenters, promoters and artist managers of the live sector, the recording industry with its labels, publishers and distributors, as well as media, export offices, classical music institutions and of course, the artists. Creators of selected film productions will have the chance to present their work at Classical:NEXT 2025, benefit from its promotional opportunities, participate in the conference, expo and showcase festival events, and connect with professionals from the music and media industries.

- Please note that the submission handling fee is €20 (+VAT if applicable).

- Submission period: 15 December 2024 – 15 January 2025
- Selection by IMZ Committee and notification of selected productions: By 15 February 2025
- Publication date: tbd
- Classical:NEXT Film Showcases: 12–15 May at Colosseum, Berlin
Invited film presenters can purchase a Classical:NEXT ticket at the discounted smart rate. Please note that Classical:NEXT is unable to cover any fees, travel expenses or other costs.
If you want to submit a film showcase, please consider the financing of your showcase carefully and what support or funding you have. Possible sources for funding in your case might be:
- National music export offices
- Foundations of collecting societies
- National cultural institutes
