off C:N Showcase, Showcase

The periphery in the center

(Faroe Islands)

The Faroe Islands may be a small country, but it boasts a thriving music scene across all genres. Someone once said that the Faroe Islands must have the largest music scene on the planet per capita—and we believe that might just be true.

At Classical:NEXT, the Faroe Islands will be represented like never before. Faroese delegates will contribute to panel discussions, be present at the Nordic stand, and engage with attendees throughout the festival.

And last but not least: a Faroese performance will feature during the off C:N programme. Don’t miss it!

Guitarist Ólavur Jakobsen (from ensemble Aldábaran) will perform a guitar suite by Sunleif Rasmussen. This suite, composed for guitar and effect processor, reimagines the traditional Baroque suite for the future. With each dance, electronic sounds increasingly dominate, and by the final dance—the Gigue—electronics fully take over all parameters.

Kristina Thede Johansen (from ensemble Aldábaran) will present a captivating piece titled Viðljóð, composed by Anna Katrin Egilstrøð. This work, written for saxophone and electronics, promises to deliver a truly unique experience.

Presented by the Association of Faroese Composers, the Faroese Ensemble Aldubáran, and Faroe Music Export.
