Project Pitch

On an Endless Road

A programme of music by and about trailblazing Japanese women, featuring Francesca Le Lohé’s song cycle for satsuma biwa performer Akiko Kubota.

Here the Japanese stringed instrument, traditionally used to accompany tales about warriors, is used to celebrate writer & feminist anarchist Itō Noe (1895-1923). Alongside sits music for violin & piano by groundbreaking Japanese women composers contemporary to Itō: Kōda Nobu (1870-1946), Toyama Michiko (1913-2006) and Yoshida Takako (1910-1956).
