Breaking the Cycle of "We Should"

Real change in the classical music industry starts with honest conversations and bold action. Let’s challenge the status quo with some spicy questions and inspire progress together!

Year after year, the classical music industry gathers, laments its shortcomings, and regrets that changes are difficult to implement. For far too long, the attitude of “We should do that someday” has prevailed in major institutions. But why not just start now? It’s time for a critical industry check: What future anxieties are holding us back from real change? And what is needed to truly get started? Which practical examples offer hope? We must also remember that the classic approach of “trial and error” – experimenting and embracing failure – is often the key to lasting success.

Dorothee Kalbhenn, Program Director of the Konzerthaus Berlin, Beat Fehlmann, Artistic Director of the State Philharmonic of Rhineland-Palatinate, and Hannah Bregler, Head of Program Development at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, have asked Kian Jazdi to “grill” them. For the session, he has brought along some spicy questions…
