Since his debut ‘Electric Fields’ (2016) with his electro-acoustic trio, Johannes Motschmann has been performing electronic music live on stage. After three studio albums and remix collaborations with renowned DJs such as Luke Slater, Ipek and Chris Liebing, he is now increasingly exploring solo paths: Preludes Tableaux, his first solo project for acoustic and electric pianos, was released in 2024. In his solo set, retrospective soundscapes of pulsating electronics merge with drones that sound as if from afar and passages that allow the influences of classical music to shine through.
Johannes is a freelance composer and lives in Berlin. Interpreters of his music include Ensemble Modern, Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg, NDR Radio Philharmonic, SWR Symphony Orchestra, Scharoun Ensemble, Deutsches Kammerorchester Berlin etc. Motschmann’s music is performed at pop and classical festivals alike – from Salzburger Festspiele or Klangspuren Schwaz to the Beethovenfest in Bonn from La Folle Journée and the Karneval der Kulturen to the Reeperbahn Festival and the Yellow Lounge at the Berghain venue. Since 2016 he is recording artist on the Berlin Label Neue Meister where he has released four studio albums. He released also remix collaborations with artists like Chris Liebing, Luke Slater, Mila Stern, Intaktogene and DJ Ipek. Motschmann studied composition with Wolfgang Rihm, Jörg Herchet and Hanspeter Kyburz, along with piano, music theory and electronic music.
