How to succeed in your net zero journey in classical music

If we in the cultural business can’t establish a sustainability culture, who else can? The good news is, there’s a solution for every challenge. It’s time for us to lead the way.

The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the 1.5-degree goal of the Paris Agreement set a clear framework for what our planet can sustain. But where does the cultural sector fit into all of this? What is our environmental impact, and how can we minimize it without losing the most important aspect that music provides in concerts—the sense of community?

Climate change is a global problem that affects everyone, and the only way to address it is by working together as a community. Culture can play a vital role, uniting audiences in the pursuit of a greener future.

By exploring examples of role models, engaging in discussions with audiences about realistic possibilities, and examining corporate structures that integrate the goal of “Net Zero” into the business, as well as addressing the fears and risks that the classical music sector faces in the wind of change, this session will inspire a new cultural mindset.
