Opening Night

DSO Chamber Music Ensemble

The Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin (DSO Berlin) was highlighted as the “orchestral think tank” among the capital city’s orchestras by the Süddeutsche Zeitung.

It is characterized by the rich dramaturgy of its programmes, its commitment to contemporary music and regular discoveries of repertoire, as well as the courage to pursue unusual music presentation formats. The hosted Casual Concerts with a lounge and live act have been successfully building a bridge between club music and classical music since 2007. The ›Symphonic Mob‹ as well, where amateur musicians and professionals make music together, has developed into a successful concept, realized across Europe as a protected brand. In the 2023-24 season, the orchestra attracted worldwide attention with its feminist music policy initiative under the motto “No Concert Without a Female Composer!”. The 2024-25 season takes place in cooperation with the campaign of the Deutscher Bühnenverein “Orchestra for Democracy” and underlines the advocacy of an open society in various concert programmes. With its many guest performances, the orchestra is in demand as a cultural ambassador of Berlin and Germany both nationally and internationally, and also has a worldwide presence with numerous award-winning recordings. The DSO was founded as the RIAS Symphony Orchestra in 1946, and was renamed the Radio Symphony Orchestra Berlin in 1956; it bears its current name since 1993.
