Condensed Music

(Ukraine/Finland)

A patchwork-like recital of extra-short contemporary solo violin works between 1 and 40 seconds long. Featuring 55 pieces from 50 composers, heavily inspired by the early punk scenes this program condenses intensities into a surge played non-stop. A bit punk, a bit crazy, a bit inebriated.

Condensed music started in Kharkiv in 2023 and later has been performed in Kyiv, Helsinki, Amsterdam, Los Angeles, Tampere, Copenhagen, Fiskars, and Hämeenlinna.

Orest Smovzh is a Ukrainian violinist and doctoral researcher based in Helsinki. He researches contemporary virtuosity in recent caprices, etudes, and studies for violin solo and is constantly looking for high-voltage connections with audiences in unexpected places. His recent performances took place in squatted buildings, comic book stores, saunas, and pubs, among more usual concert venues.
