Audience research at innovative concert formats

Discussing insights and implications from current research projects

INTERACTIVE PANEL | How can we investigate audiences and their experiences at innovative concerts? Let’s explore research approaches and discuss how we can translate research findings into practice.

In our session, we will share insights from our current audience research on innovative concert formats, discuss findings and the lessons learned throughout our various research projects. Together, we explore audience experiences in non-traditional concert settings.
Key questions driving our research include: What do terms like “innovative”, “experimental”, and “alternative” mean from an audience perspective? What motivates audiences to attend these concerts? How do they derive meaning during the performances? What are their attitudes toward changes in concert rituals, and how can we measure their degree of immersion? Data has been collected from events at the Beethovenfest Bonn, the Leuphana University, and the TONALi Labs, among others.
We invite you to discuss the implications of our research and how these academic insights can be translated into practice.
